The "Stay With Me" Author, Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ Has Been Nominated For The 2023 Booker Prize

The second book by Nigerian novelist Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, "A Spell of Good Things," has been included on the long list for The Booker Prize along with 12 other books. 

She would become the second Nigerian-born winner, following Ben Okri, and the fifth Nigerian novelist to be given consideration for the prestigious award. 

The 13 longlisted works for The Booker Prize "explore universal and topical themes," including emotionally moving human dramas and tragi-comic family sagas; the effects of climate change and minority oppression; and scientific advancements and competitive sport.

Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ is the author of Stay With Me and A Spell of Good Things. She graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ife, Nigeria, with a B.A. and M.A. in English Literature, and she also possesses an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia in the UK, where she won an international bursary for creative writing. 

Out of the 13 books that were longlisted, a shortlist of six books will be revealed in September. The winner will receive a cash award of £50,000 and be announced at a celebration at Old Billingsgate in London on November 26, 2023. Each of the six authors who have been shortlisted will get £2,500.
