Rafa Benitez Refuses To Name The Special Signing Newcastle Are Working On

Newcastle United manager, Rafa Benitez, has revealed the club are working on the signing of a target, who he “especially” likes – but refused to give confirm a name.

The Magpies are currently top of the Championship table after 26 games, one point ahead of second-place Brighton & Hove Albion who have a game in hand.

"We’re talking about some targets,” Benitez said in a press conference this week, reports the Chronicle.

“Especially one target I like and everybody can see he’s maybe a good option – so we’re progressing. I still have confidence we can do what we want to do.”

Asked how old his prime target is, Benitez added. “He’s a good age. I’m not worried if a player is 21, 28 or 30.”

There have been suggestions that Benitez’s side are keen to bring Andros Townsend back to St.James Park, after his move to Crystal Palace failed to reap the dividends for the former Spurs man.

Newcastle’s next game is on Saturday at home to Rotherham United.
