Chelsea Bid £25m For Celtic Striker, Moussa Dembele As Frantic Deadline Day Begins

Chelsea are set to make a £25 million bid for Celtic striker, Moussa Dembele and will have an army of staff ready at their Cobham training ground to help complete any deals before tonight’s deadline.


 The Blues have been made aware that Celtic would accept a bid worth around £30m for Dembele but are reluctant to match that valuation for a player who moved to the Scottish club from Fulham for just £500,000 at the end of his contract last summer.

Chelsea staff will be on hand at the club’s training centre throughout the day to complete any transfer business, with the first-team squad and backroom team in Liverpool ahead of their Premier League clash at Anfield tonight.

Another Celtic player, goalkeeper, Craig Gordon, is expected to join the Blues on deadline day as back-up to Thibaut Courtois, which would allow Asmir Begovic to complete his proposed transfer to Bournemouth.

The Premier League leaders have also held talks with German side Schalke over an £8m for versatile defender Sead Kolasinac and still hope to push through a deal for the Bosnian.

 It is shaping up to be a frantic final day of the window for Chelsea as Antonio Conte looks to complete his squad ahead of a final push for the title, with club legend Branislav Ivanovic in talks over a move to Zenit St Petersburg after nine years at Stamford Bridge.

Dembele would be the most expensive and eye-catching transfer of the January window should he join the Blues.

The 20-year-old has scored 20 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for Celtic this season and Conte is keen to sign a new forward to provide back-up for leading striker Diego Costa.

Dembele will be expected to undergo a thorough medical before joining Chelsea and the club have no plans to cut any corners to make sure the deal is pushed through before the 11pm deadline tonight.

 If Dembele does move to Chelsea, it could once again open up the possibility of a loan move for Michy Batshuayi, the £33.2m summer signing from Marseille who has played just 90 minutes of Premier League football all season.

Batshuayi, 23, turned down a temporary switch to Swansea earlier in the window but would be open to joining West Ham until the end of the season, the the east Londoners still looking for a last-minute striker to add to their squad.
