Deadline Day Signing Tipped For Everton Success
Everton's Under-23 coach, David Unsworth, believes Dominic Calvert-Lewin has what it takes to make it at Everton after joining on deadline day.
With a lot of the focus on Wednesday on Everton's failure to sign Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle and their late season-long loan deal with West Ham for Enner Valencia, the capture of 19-year-old Calvert-Lewin went under the radar.
Manchester United had been linked with a move for the Sheffield United youngster but it was eventually the Toffees who won out, landing the striker for a reported £1.5million fee.
Despite the youngster only making a handful of senior appearances, both with the Blades and while on loan at Northampton, Unsworth believes Calvert-Lewin has shown enough to suggest he can develop into a top talent.
"He’ll be a great acquisition to our very talented Under-23 group and I think he has the opportunity here now to kick on and play at the very highest level.
"He’s joining a massive Club and this is an opportunity of a lifetime for him.
''To go from League One to the Premier League is a massive jump but he certainly has all of the attributes to make that jump, given time, hard work and the desire I know he has," he said.
Everton have confirmed that Calvert-Lewin will spend the majority of his time working with Unsworth's Under-23 side this season.
