INEC Conducts Re-run In Abia, Bayelsa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday, conducted re-run elections in Bayelsa and Abia States.


 The Court of Appeal ordered fresh elections in some of the areas in the two states after it nullified the elections. Over 80 election victories was nullified by the court in the post 2015 elections.

In Abia State, the exercise was held in Abia North senatorial district and seven state constituencies. The Abia North Senatorial District has five local government areas which include: Isikwuato, Ohafia, Bende, Arochukwu and Ohafia, while the seven state constituencies include: Aba North, Arochukwu, Ikwuano, Isialangwa South, Umuahia South, Umunneochu.

The election materials arrived early in most polling units, with the exercise kicking off in most places at the scheduled 8:00am and some others at about 9:00am.

Some of the ad hoc officials were also seen crouching off the activity at about 2:00pm Voters turn out was said to be fair in most of the centers while card readers failed in some polling units.

According to the Bayelsa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Austen Okojie, the fresh election was held in Southern Ijaw Constituency IV of Bayelsa State.

But the exercise would hold in all the wards except Olodiama Ward 4 and polling units 20-30 in Foropa Ward 14.
