Hiddink Denies Diego Costa Is ‘An Idiot On The Pitch’

Guus Hiddink on Friday, leapt to the defence of Chelsea striker, Diego Costa and feels it is wrong for people to accuse him of acting like an idiot on the pitch.

Costa was banned for Chelsea's match at home against West Ham on Saturday after being sent off for two yellow card offences against Everton last week.

The controversial forward escaped getting another one match suspension after the Football Association found him not guilty of making an offensive gesture at Everton fans.

However, Costa is still facing further punishment for his reaction to being sent off by referee, Michael Oliver and an FA Commission would meet next week to decide whether to make him sit out one, or even two more, matches.

Costa had scored 11 goals in 16 appearances since Hiddink took over and the Dutchman doesn't think its right to cast him as a villain.

When asked if people should now accept that Costa is 'an idiot' on the pitch, Hiddink hit back saying: "That's too strong. If you know the definition of an idiot, it's different to characterising him as such.
