El-Rufai Sues Newspaper House For Defamation

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has dragged the Union Newspaper based in Lagos, for publishing a story that he declared an asset worth 90 billion Naira at the Code of Conduct Bureau.

The Governor, who filed his petition on Monday, at the State High Court against the newspaper house, was accompanied by his Deputy, Bala Bantex, his lawyers and top government officials.

Speaking shortly after signing the writ of summons at the court registry, Governor El-Rufai denied having 90 billion Naira asset and however, described the story as untrue and malicious.

He explained that his reason for dragging the management of the newspaper house to court, was for them to come and prove that he was as rich as they claimed in the publication.

Although, Governor El-Rufai told reporters that he had declared his asset even before his swearing in on May 29, 2015, he did not disclose the total amount of asset declared at the Code of Conduct Bureau.

The Union Newspaper House, had on the June,1 published a story that Governor El-Rufai declared 90 billion Naira asset including 40 mansions in Nigeria.
