Blues Get Lead At Top Of Barclays Premier League

Willian emphasised the confidence in the Chelsea camp as the Blues extend  lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League table.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder was in good form in the 2-1 win over Stoke.

Willian said that the club's performance “combined with results elsewhere over the Easter period, means we they are Seven points clear of second-placed.”

Arsenal with a game in hand, having been Six points ahead of Manchester City before the current round of games.

Looking back on beating Stoke and at the games ahead, Willian also acknowledged that there is still plenty to do.

‘I think we played very well [against Stoke], we have confidence and possession and we have to continue in the same way,’ he said.

‘We have to continue to be strong and concentrate and we have to get points game by game and this is the way.

‘Now we have to stay focused and stay strong because there are difficult games coming and we have to prepare.’

Willian’s ability to press the opposition players in their own half and win the ball back high up the pitch has been a consistent strength of his game, and it was important again in the part he played in Saturday’s winning goal when capitalising on Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic’s loose throw.

‘We played well because we were winning every second ball and we put pressure,’ he said. ‘For the second goal I felt that the ball was coming in that area there and I go. I passed to Eden and then he made an assist to Loic. So I think we played very well and congratulations to everyone.’

Willian also praised the part Jose Mourinho played in building the players’ belief.

‘He is a great manager and he gives confidence, he gives everything to the players and we try to win all the games.

He explains what we have to do on the pitch and he is a very good coach and he has history in football so I am very happy to work with him.’ He stressed.
