At Least 3 Dead As Pedestrian Bridge Collapses In Kano

At least 3 people have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a pedestrian bridge along Jafar road in Dorayi Quarters in Kano state, North West Nigeria.

Residents confirmed that the construction of the bridge has not been completed when it fell down on a taxi driver carrying at least three people from Kabuga to Dorayi.

The construction of Jafar Road was completed recently, leaving only the pedestrian bridge which fell down.

The Police Spokesman, Magaji Majia, who confirmed the incident said the pedestal was not properly placed when the bridge collapsed.

“The workers at the site had warned motorists not to pass because they were working on the bridge but the driver of the taxi allegedly ignored the warning.

According to him, the vehicle has since been evacuated from the scene while the corpses have been deposited at a hospital morgue.

The remaining part of the bridge also collapsed on tricycle on Monday, but there was no injury recorded.

Jafar Road is now closed pending the time the contractor would remove the remaining part of the bridge.

Mr Majiya said the police had also commenced investigation into the cause of the incident.
